Decorating a Cabin in the Woods for a Vacation Rental

Last summer my family purchased a vintage cabin in the Oregon Cascades near Crescent Lake. The bones were good, so to speak, but the cabin needed updating and all new furniture. While this was primarily my brother's project because he lives nearby, I was assigned the job of decorating it, and I happily obliged. I had to keep a few things in mind - this was going to be an escape for my brother who is a single dad to three girls age 8 and under, so this needed to function as a bachelor pad for him, but also be family friendly. We wanted the furnishings to be simple, have a rustic masculine edge, but also be modern and durable for the kids.

The cabin sits on a beautiful stream and has a large deck and, a hot tub. It is a great escape for all seasons and I wanted the decor to transition well from cozy winter cabin to summer lake house.

These chairs from Target paired with a modern brown leather couch from Wayfair fit our modern/rustic unfussy look.

We added some luxurious touches - like an espresso machine and copper cookware, because who doesn't need an afternoon cappuccino on a family trip?
