Makeover for a Classic Family Home

Updated: Jul 19, 2023

It had been 20 years since my neighbor, Rosanna, had decorated her home and it was due for an upgrade. First, the before:

As you can see, she was due for a refresh! She wasn't sure what to keep and what to donate, but we decided to keep some of her art pieces, keep the same classic vibe, but modernize it with a rose colored couch from Anthropologie, a new rug, and a pair of mid century chairs. Rosanna has kids and pets, so she wanted the room to stand up to family life and not be too precious but still have some style. This post may contain affiliate links. How gorgeous is this room now? The rug is so durable and and yet has an upscale feel. The chairs are comfortable and add a modern edge. The lighting from Arhaus adds the finishing touch like the perfect piece of jewelry. A lot of people would have been scared to go with a rose colored couch, but I think it adds the perfect pop of color and is a real statement here. Suddenly her gallery wall looked fresh again.

You can see the dining room in the background. She kept her same dining table, and bought new chairs, a new light fixture, and some new art for an update that didn't go too modern.

Here is a closer look at the dining table and chairs, and what it looked like before:

Huge improvement, right? This is a great example of how you can keep some things and upgrade others and still have the feel of a total makeover.
